Both books are in fine condition and Volume Two has been INSCRIBED & SIGNED by Truman on the title page. Truman has dated his signature, 2/8/58. These copies were printed in 1955. 3 HARRY & BESS TRUMAN (President and First Lady) 8x10 SIGNED PHOTO that was given by the Trumans as their Christmas card in 1946. The White House ordered 1,000 copies of the black and white photograph showing the Trumans standing on the ramp as they boarded the Presidential airplane, The Independence. On December 23, President Truman met with 575 of the White House employees and presented each with the autographed photo of himself and Mrs. Truman. This particular photo was one of those given as a Christmas gift card in 1946. It has been mounted and has some damage to the edges with some tears and paper loss. In over 40 years in the business, I have handled less than 10 examples. Most of the edge damage (but not all) could be matted out. Despite the problems, this is still a desirable signed photo as few examples have survived…595.00

This is a total “mystery lot” and is being sold as is. The lot of 25 signatures…sold

MASTERCARD, VISA, DISCOVER & AMERICAN EXPRESS ACCEPTED.
13 [JOHN F. KENNEDY] 1917-1963 Lot consists of a 7 inch in diameter salad plate used by the Kennedy’s aboard the Presidential yacht, the U.S.S. Honey Fitz. The plate has a gold outer rim and a second gold rim around the inner portion of the plate. At the top is embossed in gold the symbol of the American eagle. The Honey Fitz was originally the 8th Presidential Yacht and was built in 1931. Originally named the Lenore, the boat was used as a training ship for submarine crews during WW II and later was used as an escort for the Presidential Yacht Williamsburg. In 1953 President Eisenhower retired the Williamsburg from active service and after extensive refurnishing and overhauling the Lenore was renamed the Barbara Ann in honor of Eisenhower’s granddaughter. With the inauguration of Kennedy, the yacht was renamed the Honey Fitz in honor of JFK’s maternal grandfather, John Francis Fitzgerald. The yacht would continue to be used by Johnson and Nixon (Nixon would rename the yacht, the Tricia, after his daughter). The yacht was auctioned off in 1971. The Kennedy’s did not have a formal dining set at the White House, preferring to use the china from past presidents and in particular that used by President Harry Truman. To the best of my knowledge, this is as close as you can get to “Presidential Kennedy China”. Included with the plate are photocopies of letters from Seaman Duck (who worked aboard the Honey Fitz) and Ted Kennedy. The copy of the notarized letter from Seaman Duck reads as follows: I certify that this set of dishes were used by the Kennedy family and members of the White House staff. Came from U.S.S. Honey Fitz yacht and were given to me by the Kennedy administration. R.C. Duck, U.S.N. EM 2. Also included is a copy of a typed letter of Edward Kennedy on the imprinted stationery of the US Senate (Dated August 24, 1970). In part the letter reads: The dishes you purchased do appear to be the ones used on the Honey Fitz. There is no official record that they were given to Seaman Duck, who did serve on the Honey Fitz while President Kennedy was in office. I hope this information will be helpful to you. Edward M. Kennedy. This is an outstanding piece of Americana and an outstanding display piece. The salad plate with the accompanying letters…995.00
THE ONLY SIGNED COPY OF HER MAGAZINE, THE HATCHET THAT I HAVE SEEN OFFERED IN OVER 40 YEARS
14 CARRY A. NATION (Temperance Movement) 1846-1911 Lot consists of a SIGNED EDITION (June 1, 1906) of her magazine, The Hatchet. The front cover has BEEN SIGNED by Nation across the top. Nation was born Carrie Nation in Kentucky. She got her famous last name when she married her second husband, David Nation. Her first name is seen spelled in two ways, “Carrie” and “Carry”. The first spelling was used in the early records while the second spelling was used by her parents in the family bible. When she began her anti-liquor movement in the 20th century she adopted the spelling of “Carry A. Nation” and had it registered as a trademark in Kansas. I have handled a number of Carry Nation signatures over the years but in over 40 years in the business, this IS THE ONLY SIGNED COPY OF HER MAGAZINE THAT I HAVE SEEN OFFERED FOR SALE. The piece has been superbly framed so that both the front and back cover are visible and on the back of the frame you can also see the inside contents. Browning has then SIGNED the card and added the date, June 24th, 1887. The card shows some minor aging but overall it is in excellent condition and makes a superb display piece. The “frame” is approximately 26 inches long and approximately 12 inches from top to bottom. This is a really magnificent piece and is fit for the finest of collections. I was told that the cost on the “model frame” alone was over $2,000.00. This is a great item and a simply superb display piece…1995.00

ZACHARY TAYLOR, HIS CABINET AND OVER
36 ZACHARY TAYLOR (Twelfth President of the United States- 1849-1850) I am proud to offer a truly historical and possible unique signed autograph book. The autograph album (hard cover book) was obtained by Pennsylvania House of Representative member Milo Melankthon Dimmick in April of 1850, just months before the death of President Taylor (July 9, 1850). On the first page are the signatures of Taylor and his entire cabinet (vice president Fillmore is not included). The names on the first page are: Zachary Taylor (President), John Clayton (Secretary of State), William Meredith (Secretary of the Treasury), George Crawford (Secretary of War), Reverdy Johnson (Attorney General), William Preston (Secretary of the Navy) and Thomas Ewing (Secretary of the Interior). Following the President and Cabinet are approximately 250 additional signatures of members of the Senate and House of Representatives. All the signatures are on one side of the sheet only (With the exception of one page which fortunately does not bear any of the “big” names.). Each signer has added the state they represent below their signature. There is some separation of the pages from the spine and the cover is well worn but the signature pages are in nice condition and all the signatures are still bold and dark. While not every member of Congress is in the book, there are a number of great names such as William Seward, Jefferson Davis, Steven Douglas, Horace Mann, Alexander Stephens and Andrew Johnson. To find an album that has this many members of Congress (none are tipped in or have been added) is extremely rare (to say the least) and is an outstanding piece of American History. I rarely state that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity but in over 40 years this is the most complete set of signatures from this Congress that I have seen…9,450.00

The signatures of Harry and Bess Truman were from a rubber/steel stamp and they were NOT actually signed by the Trumans. While this is a carbon copy (The family Lawyer’s copy) it has actually been signed by all. The document id dated September 13, 1956 and directed to the Commerce Trust Company. In part the letter reads: Reference is made to our letter to you dated December 21, 1955, delivered to you along with the certain promissory note in the principal amount of $220,000.00 referred to therein, in which letter you were authorized to hold the note for collection under certain terms, conditions and instructions. We wish to amend the terms, conditions and instructions in the following particulars, to-wit: ---- In the event the maker of the note makes the payment of the sum of $130,000.00 for the release of the 50 acre tract prior to the due date of the first installment, as provided for in the said note and deed of trust, you will deposit thereof the sum of $93,000.00 to the joint account of J. Vivian Truman and Luella Truman and the balance of $37,000.00 shall be deposited as follows: one half thereof to the account of Harry S. Truman and one-half thereof to the account of Bess W. Truman. Truman has drawn through several lines and added a chance in his hand. He has then signed his name and also he has signed Bess Truman’s name. This is an extremely rare item and the only one that I have seen with this combination of signatures. This is a superb piece of history and suitable for display. There are several folds in the letters as well as some carbon smudging on the page but the signatures and text are in fine condition. The two page document…1295.00
